Ship's History:*

The ship that would one day become the E.F.S. Normandy started out as Exofleet Research Project 608. Designed by Professor Algernon of the University of Chicago, Project 608 was originally intended as a Defense Frigate capable of making planetary landings. With its impressive array of armament, Project 608 could deploy hundreds of ground operatives in a matter of minutes while providing adequate cover fire. However, the need for hull restructuring after each drop was an object of great concern within the Homeworld Senate. As such, Exofleet opted to change the design (against Algernon's strenuous protests) to get it approved for funding. The ventral landing bay was excluded while six e-frame hangers and one dropship hanger were included. The result was a relatively fast gunship with minimal Exoframe support and a platoon of Jumptroops. But alas, the design changes resulted in serious cost overruns during construction of the prototype. As it was a time of peace, the Homeworld Senate decided to scrap the project. But not before the prototype was completed. Unwilling to let a perfectly good ship go to waste, Project 608 was registered and commissioned. Keeping the number which marked its rocky beginnings, registry number FF-608 was commissioned on August 4, 2117, as the E.F.S. Normandy. Some have jokingly suggested that the ship's greatest battle was in being made. In truth, only time will tell.

* This short passage is my interpretation on the origin of the EFS Normandy and is not considered the official origin of the ship.
