History:
Due to the fact the VF-11 Thunderbolt is slightly out of date, Exofleet ordered a new VF e-frame designed to replace it. Opting to do the job itself, the Exofleet Research and Development Group came up with the VF-19 Excalibur. To date, it is the most advanced, well-rounded fighter in Exofleet service. Though not as fast as the VF-4 Lightning III, the Excalibur easily keeps up with either the VF-14 Hunter or the VF-17 Stealth Nightmare - both of which are known for their speed and maneuverability. Like the VF-11, the Excalibur does utilize an Anti-projectile Shield which greatly increases its defensive capability (see the VF-11 entry for further details). But unlike the VF-11, the Excalibur has a much greater offensive capability because it utilizes missiles where as the VF-11 does not. The major addition to the Excalibur's offensive array is more powerful version of Professor Algernon's Solar Flare. This devastating weapon has an adjustable blast radius which can reach in excess of 32.4 meters (109.6 feet). Anything caught in range when the Solar Flare is active is almost instantly vaporized. However, this includes friend and foe alike. So due to the imprecision involved with aiming the weapon, its use in battle can be somewhat limited. Also, the Solar Flare is notorious for draining power from the primary fuel cells and thus is used only sparingly.

Despite the Excalibur's more advanced features, only a surprising few are in Exofleet service. The reason being that because the e-frame is relatively new, it has yet to be produced on a large scale. Once it is, the VF-11 will eventually be phased-out in favor of the VF-19 Excalibur.
