History:
With the success of the VF-11 Thunderbolt, Sedna Planitia enjoyed a comfortable share of the ship building market. Though no longer a major supplier of capital ships, Sedna made up for the loss of business by obtaining a near-monoploy on the production of VF e-frames. Adding to their already respectable track record, Sedna next released specialized versions of the VF-11. The first of these was the VF-11D Jamming Bird.
Like the Thunderbolt, the Jamming Bird possesses an Anti-projectile Shield and a similar array of weapons. Though with the addition of missile pods in the dorsal boosters, the Jamming Bird is more heavily armed. It also is more heavily armored around the chest area in Battloid Mode and due to the presence of the dorsal boosters, the Jamming Bird is capable of faster speeds than the VF-11 Thunderbolt. As the name indicates, the Jamming Bird also possesses an electrostatic jammer. Located in the 'tip' of each dorsal booster and operable only in Battloid Mode, the jammer was based on the original design of Professor Algernon of the University of Chicago. This newer version of the jammer is actually capable of disabling an entire starship or many smaller craft. Despite the potency of this weapon, it has similar drawbacks to the Solar Flare found in the VF-19. It is not a precision weapon and therefore makes no distinction between friend and foe when used. It also uses a substantial amount of power. Though unlike the solar flare, power allocation to the weapon is not as expensive. As a result of both of these factors, the jammer's usefulness tends to be restricted.
The primary function of the Jamming Bird is for Intelligence and Long Range Communications. Thus, in addition to its offensive power, the Jamming Bird contains a highly sophisticated sensor package which rivals any system found on a modern day carrier. While its predecessor, the spy/logistics e-frame, was supposedly "able to spot a fly on a horse's butt for 20 miles"; the Jamming Bird could track the flight path of several flies at once from orbit.
