HISTORY:
Iris Janson was born to middle class parents in a loving home. Most of her family made a living in accounting, and so it was expected that when Iris grew up she would make a similar living. However, the world of accounting held little appeal for young Iris. She hated math. She happened to be very good at it, but she still hated it. Thus it could be said that Iris joined Exofleet simply to escape her family's expectations. As she submitted her application to the academy Iris got the feeling that her whole life was about to change... and she was right.
While at the academy, Iris's leadership skills got her noticed by her instructors. Thus she was often assigned as squad leader during training exercises. She had the notable distinction of leading more successful missions as a cadet than any other member of her graduating class. Her first assignment after graduation was as an executive officer to a squad stationed out of Chaos. That posting lasted one year. Iris was then re-assigned as a commanding officer stationed out of Mars. She would remain in command of Theta Squad for an additional three years. During that time the roster of the squad, as well as the squad's base of operations, would change a number of times. Iris served each posting to the best of her ability. She was recommended for promotion on three occasions, but declined each time - offering only that she preferred to stay with her squad.
Her most recent posting would bring her back to Chaos, to the very base her first posting had been. Theta Squad had been stationed there for one standard month when Iris had the accident that would claim her biological right arm. Her squad had been out on patrol when they encountered a meteor shower. One of her subordinates sustained damage to his e-frame as a result and in an attempt to remove him from danger Iris's e-frame was struck. In an instant, Iris's life changed again - this time for the worse. Five months of intensive physical therapy would be required to return Iris to active duty. Much to her surprise she was not returned to Theta Squad. Instead she met with Admiral Takagi, who informed her that she would be in command of a new, elite exosquad. The experience stirred something in her. For reasons she could not explain, Iris was certain that her whole life was about to change... yet again.
